Anonymous Gamer on Jonathan Cumminga Steve Kerr’s feelings

One of the greatest stories surrounding the Golden State Warriors this season was the removal of Jonathan Kuminga from the head coach Steve Kerrrotation in recent weeks. Kuminga and the Warriors seemed destined for a split last offseason before eventually reaching an agreement to bring him back for this season, but the former lottery pick and his team are clearly not on the same page at this point.

As the trade deadline nears, many have speculated that the Warriors could look to trade Cummings to a new team, and many eyebrows were raised recently when Cummings went on the injury report against the Oklahoma City Thunder in a game that rested many of the Warriors’ starters, which almost certainly would have given him a chance to play.

Some have speculated that Kuminga may have embellished or even faked the injury, and recently an anonymous Warriors player weighed in to the situation.

“I wouldn’t play either,” the player said, per The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Marcus Thompson II and Nick Friedel. “It is clear that the coach does not believe in him.

Overall, the story will do nothing to smooth over the reported tensions between Kuminga and the Golden State coaching staff.

Last year, Kuminga played a big role in the Warriors’ Western Conference semifinal loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves after star point guard Stephen Curry went down with an injury, and he largely played well, showing the athleticism, defense and improved shooting touch that earned him another NBA D20211 lottery pick.

However, Kuminga has been completely out of Kerr’s rotation for the past few weeks, and it remains to be seen whether a team on the trade market might be willing to take a chance on him and what he might be giving up.

The Warriors will next take the floor Thursday night against the New York Knicks.
