Anthony Davies leaves the Christmas Day game early with a groin injury

NBA fans have seen this one too many times before: Anthony Davis left the game with an injury. The Dallas Mavericks star limped into the locker room during his team Christmas showdown with the Golden State Warriors and was ruled out for the rest of the competition with right groin cramps, according to ClutchPoint’s Brett Siegel.

Davis has already missed half the season with a calf strain, so people will immediately fear the worst after seeing him suffer an apparent lower-body injury. Although a newbie Cooper Flagg appears as a top offensive option, the Mavs still need an established difference maker like No. 3 on the floor. Dallas is already behind by double digits and will have a very difficult time in the second half if Davis is not back in action.

The fan base is understandably feeling low after everything they’ve endured since the organization traded Luka Doncic in February, but there’s actually reason for optimism. The Mavericks boast an intriguing roster that can surprise teams in the Western Conference. The problem, however, is that the team is rarely healthy. Trusting Davis to be the face of the franchise, even in the short term, seems extremely risky given his extensive medical history.
