Anthony Davis wants to make a comeback against the Lakers, but there’s a catch

On Friday night, Dallas Mavericks will start the journey to against the Los Angeles Lakers in a match between two teams that were involved in the most shocking trade in NBA history ten months ago. Mavericks big man Anthony Davis hasn’t yet to play a game at Cripto.com Arena after being traded from the Lakers for Luka Doncic, but according to latest reportsthat could change on friday night.
“Anthony Davies has been asked if he would prefer to return on Friday or Saturday. He will only play one leg back-to-back,” reported Athletic’s Christian Clarke on X, formerly Twitter.
“You know which game I want to play. But we’ll see. We’ll talk. See what makes the most sense with the medical and coaching staff. The decision hasn’t been made,” Davis said.
NBA Insider Marc Stein also reported to X that “Mavericks coach Jason Kidd says Anthony Davis is a contender to return Friday against the Lakers in Los Angeles if he responds well to today’s practice. Kidd says Davis will be listed as questionable for Friday after missing the last 14 games with a left foot strain.”
As Stein mentioned, Davis was out for most of the last month for the Mavericks, during which Dallas fell freely in the Western Conference playoff standings.
Davis’ return for a matchup against his former team, the Lakers, would certainly be a poetic return for the big man as the Mavericks look to salvage their 2025-26 season before it’s too late.
