Anthony Davis will likely have hand surgery, but is still tradeable

Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis reportedly suffered ligament damage in his left handleaving the door open for potential surgery. On Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that AD really likely to pass surgery and will miss “several months” as a result. While the initial general thought around the NBA was that Davis would need surgery to likely end trade speculation, Charania’s report after the news suggests otherwise.

“Fascinating development: The Mavericks are resuming Davis trade talks with multiple teams interested, sources said. If they move into a playoff contender, the return timeline could allow Davis to return for the postseason while establishing himself elsewhere long-term,” Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

It appears as though Anthony Davis may have already played his last game with the Mavs. If that is indeed the case, AD will have played a total of 29 games with Dallas since the trade last February.

Nothing is guaranteed right now, but the Mavs are seemingly ready to move on from AD based on Charania’s report. The fact that he may be able to return in the postseason will increase the possibility of a trade happening before this season’s deadline.

Daniel Gafford is another Mavs player who could be moved before the trade deadline. Naji Marshall may also emerge as a trade candidate if the Mavs go all-in on a rebuild.

Cooper Flag continues to play wellbut the 2025-26 season was an overall disappointment. And with the one-year anniversary of the Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic trade just a few weeks away, it appears that AD’s tenure with the Mavs will soon be coming to an end.
