Anthony Davis will miss the rest of the 2025-26 season with hand and groin injuries

Washington The Wizards have made an official decision on Anthony Davis‘ availability for the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Washington traded Davis away from the Dallas Mavericks before the trade deadline. They got him, Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum in exchange for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Tyus Jones, Marvin Bagley III and draft compensation.

However, injuries have been brutal for Davis this season. He featured in just 20 games throughout the campaign, coming through a calf strain before picking up hand and groin injuries.

Knowing how crucial Davis will be to their plans, the Wizards will have a star big man sit until the end of the year to fully recover for the next season. This was revealed by NBA insider Chris Haynes on Friday.

Washington Wizards Star Anthony Davis (hand, groin) expected to miss the rest of the season to make a full recovery for the 2026-27 season, league sources tell me,” Haynes wrote.

Considering the Wizards are far from the playoffs this season, the decision to sit out Anthony Davis makes sense. They will be a lottery team this year, but next season presents them with a real opportunity to make some serious noise as a playoff contender.

The last major playoff appearance for the Wizards was in 2017 during the John Wall era, when they lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals. They later experienced first-round exits in 2018 and 2021 and have been a lottery team ever since.

However, their major moves for Davis and Trae Young point to a new direction for the franchise. The Wizards will have a higher floor and ceiling with the star duo healthy for next season, showing a lot of promise for the team’s fans.

Washington is 14-36 this season, holding the 13th spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They are one game ahead of the Brooklyn Nets and three games ahead of the Indiana Pacers. However, they trail the Milwaukee Bucks by seven games and the Chicago Bulls by nine games.

The Wizards will continue their preparations for the upcoming match, as they are on the road. They face the Nets and tip-off will take place on February 7th at 3:00 PM ET.
