Anthony Edwards hit through injury for the opener against the Blazers

The The Minnesota Timberwolves will open their account in the 2025-26 campaign on Wednesday when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center. They will look to build on last season’s performance in the Western Conference Finals, establishing themselves as one of the best teams in the Western Conference behind another jump from Anthony Edwards.

However, Edwards appears to be in danger of missing tomorrow’s competition. As pointed out from Timberwolves reporter Dane Moore, the team has the 24-year-old star listed on the injury report as questionable because of back spasms.

It is not entirely clear when Edwards suffered the injury and whether it is serious enough to warrant an absence from the opener. He missed the Timberwolves’ final preseason game, a 126-110 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, but all of the team’s key players were rested for the contest.

This injury designation appears to be nothing more than a precaution for the Timberwolves, especially considering how durable Edwards has been throughout his career. In one season in his career, he did not play in less than 72 games, and in the past three seasons he played exactly 79 games.

Simply put, Edwards doesn’t miss too many games, and mere back spasms shouldn’t be enough to keep him out of tomorrow’s contest against the Blazers. The 24-year-old is, it seems, a freak of nature bounce back from ankle injuries and shrugged them off as if they were nothing.

Of course, more information on Edwards’ availability will be revealed in the next 24 hours, but if anyone were to bet, they should lean on him to suit up for the Timberwolves’ season opener. If Edwards ends up being unavailable, Donte DiVincenzo and Terrence Shannon Jr. should be in a large number of minutes.

This Timberwolves team has reached the conference finals two years in a row, no small feat in a crowded West. But the hump before them remains gigantic Edwards is as talented as he is means they are not far from their dreams of winning the title.

Edwards could have a season-high 30 points per game this season, especially if he can maintain his three-point numbers from last season while increasing his free throw rate. The Timberwolves will only go as far as he takes them, and the sky’s the limit.
