Anthony Edwards looked to re-sign Bones Hyland in free agency

Looks like a bromance is brewing in Minneapolis. Despite that Minnesota Timberwolves‘ 108-105 loss to the Phoenix Suns, spirits were high in the locker room – with Anthony Edwards praises unsung hero in bench play Bones Hyland for reinforcements amid point guard woes.

Mike Conley has aged two decades in what seems like the span of a year, while Rob Dillingham hasn’t matured as quickly as the Timberwolves had hoped when they traded away his draft rights last year. This has opened the gap for the Timberwolves at oneand on Monday night, it was Hyland who filled that opening.

Hyland scored 14 points in 16 minutes, and he played minutes in crunch time. And the Timberwolves could benefit from giving him more minutes. After all, Edwards is clearly one of his biggest fans in the locker room who even lobbied for it to re-sign him this past offseason.

“Ant is a big advocate. He talked to the coaches every day about me. He’s got my back. Even in the summer, he’s like, ‘We’ve got to re-sign Bones,'” Hyland said after the game, per Timberwolves insider Dan Moore.

Hyland looked like he was going to be a big player in the rotation and one of the best backup guards (to say the least) when he started his career stepping up for the Denver Nuggets. But he seemed to have bought too much into his popularity, and as a result he was moved around the association.

But Hyland appears to have found a home with the Timberwolves. He’s not the answer to their point guard issues, but at least he’s established himself at point guard over Dillingham. And maybe by working more closely with Edwards, some of Edwards’ incredible playing would hit him too.
