Ben Simmons, Cam Johnson injury status vs. Suns

Simmons has missed the last two Nets games due to illness. Brooklyn initially listed him as probable against the New York Knicks on Tuesday before ruling him out. The improbable mark indicates he is in danger of missing his third straight game on Wednesday.
Simmons has struggled to stay on the floor lately after his healthiest start to the season in three years. After appearing in 26 of the Nets’ first 33 games, he has missed seven of their last 11. The 28-year-old has taken over for Dennis Schroeder as Brooklyn’s starting point guard over the past month, averaging 8.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 8.2 assists in the last 11 performances.

Johnson missed an extended stretch earlier this month after injuring his right ankle during a Jan. 2 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. The game was his second sprained ankle this season, after injuring it during a Nov. 25 win over the Golden State Warriors.
He returned for a Jan. 14 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, but sprained his ankle in the first half. By the time he was able to finish, he was sitting in Los Angeles consecutively. The veteran wing has played in the Nets’ last two games, but appeared to re-injury his ankle during the first half of Tuesday’s loss to the Knicks.
Johnson finished again, but went very cautiously after the game. The questionable tag makes it unlikely that he will suit up against the Suns.
Given Johnson’s trade value and the direction of the Nets, it was surprising to see the team allow him to play through multiple ankle injuries. The 6-foot-8 sharpshooter is among the NBA’s most sought-after targets heading into the Feb. 6 deadline. After the matchup with Phoenix, Brooklyn will have six more games before the deadline.
D’Angelo Russell will be out with a left hamstring strain/injury for the second night of back-to-back games. Cam Thomas and Trendon Watford remain out due to hamstring injuries.
Bradley Beal was asked about the Suns due to a sprained left ankle.
