There are many of them intriguing games on the college basketball schedule for Wednesday. This is one of the better contests you will find. Kansas is still learning how to play together. Head coach Bill Self rides the ups and downs, trying to stay patient and figure out a formula that works. Kansas has gone through some marked struggles after early season wins over North Carolina and Duke. Kansas then hit a rut with losses to Missouri and West Virginia. The Jayhawks offense was easy to defend at times. KU needs more balance and versatility from its offense. If big man Hunter Dickinson isn’t sharp, this team is especially vulnerable. The Jayhawks bounced back from a 51-point loss to West Virginia at UCF last week on the road. Kansas played with the grit and urgency that Self expects from his team, but one has to wonder why that urgency isn’t always there. KU was crushed in the first half of the West Virginia game and just couldn’t solve the Mountaineer defense. West Virginia is a solid team, but we just saw VVU get blown out at home by Arizona on Tuesday night. It’s not like mountaineers are elite. Still, they controlled most of that game before Kansas’ late rally came to an end. Kansas may have gotten a wake-up call in that West Virginia game. KU was alive against UCF. However, now we get to see if Kansas can sustain a high level of play. If KU regresses and falls back into bad habits against Arizona State, the problem won’t be solved. This is the true test of Kansas’ consistency.
Arizona State looks like an NCAA tournament team. Coach Bobby Hurley led ASU to wins over New Mexico and Saint Mary’s, plus a sweep of Colorado and additional wins over Santa Clara and Grand Canyon. That’s a solid collection of non-cabbage wins that could look really good come Election Week. Arizona State has often struggled on offense under Hurley, but this season’s team has made real improvements on that part of the floor. ASU will look to continue its offensive streak against Kansas.

Why Arizona State will cover the spread/win
The spread looks great. Sure, Kansas just won a game by 51 points on Sunday, but UCF isn’t nearly as good as Arizona State, for one. Second, that game was an outlier for Kansas and not generally representative of how the Jayhawks have played over the past month. Third, Arizona State isn’t going through as many offensive droughts this season as it once did under Bobby Hurley. ASU will score consistently enough to make this a relatively close game.
Why Kansas will cover the spread/win
A 51-point win over UCF brought out the beast in this Kansas team. Now you’ll see KU flex its muscles at home, even against a good team like ASU. This is going to be another big upset for the Jayhawks.
Arizona-Kansas State Final Prediction and Pick
We think the spread here is a good 3-4 points too big. Take the state of Arizona.
