Arrested Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat player Terry Rozier

A National Basketball Association player and coach are two of several people across the country who have been charged in a case of illegal sports betting, according to the BBC’s US partner CBS News.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat player Terry Rozier were arrested after Wednesday’s games, CBS News reported.

Prosecutors in New York and FBI Director Cash Patel are expected to hold a press conference at 10:00 a.m. EST (3:00 p.m. BST) to announce the arrests in the case.

Federal investigators were looking into unusual betting activity related to a March 2023 game Rozier played for the Charlotte Hornets, according to CBS.

Officials were investigating whether Rozier manipulated his game performance for an illegal sports gambling scheme, according to The Athletic.

During the game, Rozier played roughly nine minutes and scored just five points against the New Orleans Pelicans due to a sore right leg.

Before that game, he averaged 35 minutes of play and about 21 points per game.
