Atlanta fans mad at CJ McCollum after ugly final possession

On Monday afternoon, Atlanta Hawks hit the floor at home for the MLK Day game against the Milwaukee Bucks. The The Hawks were in desperate need from victory, having dropped three consecutive games leading into this competition, including a loss against the Boston Celtics on Saturday night.
Instead, Atlanta shot an abysmal 1-22 from the three-point line in the first half, and although they came back and put the game away late, they ultimately fell when CJ McCollumA wild attempt to score the basket was missed in the final seconds.
You can tell CJ McCollum wasn’t passing this ball and he was going to shoot it no matter what smh pic.twitter.com/vVHU4UvbBv

Fans on X, formerly Twitter, were not thrilled with the Hawks’ new trade acquisition attempt.
“CJ McCollum no way you came back from 20 and hit the last shot like that,” one fan wrote.
“Huhs NBA fanbase has ever hated a player as fast as Hawks fans have CJ McCollum,” wondered another.
Others noted that the Hawks had two hot hands on the floor in Jaylen Johnson and Nikhil Alexander-Walker, neither of whom got the ball on the final possession.
“Why is it?” CJ McCollum get one last chance for jalen johnson or nav? A brutal end to a great comeback by the Hawks.” one fan wrote.
Indeed, Alexander-Walker was the main reason the Hawks were able to pull away late in this game, knocking down five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter alone en route to a 32-point afternoon.
In the end, however, McCollum’s miss cemented the Hawks’ fourth straight loss, dropping them five games below the .500 mark in the process.
McCollum was recently brought in along with Corey Kispert from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Trae Young, and so far the duo hasn’t particularly courted Atlanta fans. It remains to be seen if the Hawks will try to make any more moves before the trade deadline, which is less than a month away.
Either way, Atlanta will next take the field on Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.
