Austin Reaves breaks injury silence after Clippers loss

LOS ANGELES – While it is Los Angeles Lakers he certainly had a lot to think about following their 116-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippersit wasn’t the only thing on their minds. Austin Reaves seemingly injured himself late in the fourth quarter of the loss to the Lakers and did not return to the game.

After an apparent injury, Austin Reeves didn’t leave the bench at all and returned to the locker room, but he didn’t return to the game either. But with the Clippers leading the Lakers by double digits, there may not have been a reason he had to come back.

Anyway, the head coach of the Lakers JJ Redick confirmed that the play, with Reaves landing awkwardly on the court, involved his knee.

“I believe he hit his knees,” Redick said. “We’ll wait and see how he feels.” Sometimes it can be an hour or a day, I don’t know.”

But it seems all is well with Reaves himself. The Lakers next play at home on Tuesday against the Washington Wizards, a matchup that Reaves plans to play inaccording to Jovan Buha from Athletic.

Reaves, who has had a relatively good start to the month, had a much quieter game against the Clippers in contrast to his game-high 38 points in Friday’s loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

He finished with 14 points, two rebounds and three assists. He shot efficiently (67 percent), but hit only six shots. He also turned the ball over five times. It is a byproduct of both Reeves’ style of play and his adaptation to higher usage.

After the game, Redick praised the Clippers’ defense for making it difficult for the Lakers to get into any offensive rhythm.

“Against great teams, you make mistakes, you don’t get a turnover, you don’t get a defensive rebound, they make you pay every time,” Redick said. “We did some really good things in the second half, but that’s the real defense. They have a real defense and they are physical.”

The Lakers will return to Cripto.com Arena for two games against the Wizards and Boston Celtics before embarking on a five-game road trip to close out the month. They will then return to the Intuit Dome for another showdown against the Clippers upon their return to Los Angeles in early February.
