Back, Tree Young now has to find his breath
Far from the parquet from the end of October, Trae Young finally found ground with Hawks. The result? Loss in Charlotte with 8 points (3/8 including 0/5 from distance) and 10 assists in 20 minutes for the leader.
“The hardest part is the physical condition”, he explains. “It’s like running a mile: you get exhausted and you need a time-out, a break in the game, just to get your breath back.”
In the still-accelerating NBA, where possessions are pursued with great intensity, Trae Young knows that building strength comes through repetition. But he still wants to be convincing: he assures that he will find his best level “not very long”seeing in this output a “good first step”.
Moreover, despite this physical condition that needs improvement, the All-Star quickly found his collective bearings, with 10 assists. “It was easy to get back with these guys”he insists, reminding that Atlanta now bases its playing identity on the circulation of the ball. The first act was tough though: “We didn’t give our shots, and we didn’t even manage to defend.”
A failed birthday present for Jalen Johnson
Punished by the external address of the Hornets, especially the duo LELEL BALL – Knupel at 11/15 from distance at halftime, the Hawks had difficulty projecting. In the opening minutes, we also saw Trae Young make a few miscommunications, or try some botched defensive plays that destabilized the Hawks.
Another delicate parameter: the minute limit. Trae Young admits that playing counter in the head is a balancing act. “You want to give as much as you can with the time you have, but you don’t want to force it. It’s hard.” Still, he hears “trust” staff and set protocol.
In the defeat, however, he kept the reaction of the group, carried by the blow Jalen Johnson (43 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists), who celebrated his 24th birthday on Thursday night.
“I’m happy he had a big match, I just wish we could have gotten a win for him. I know how much he loves to win. So for his birthday, it’s a crapshoot…” concludes Trae Young.
