Baker Mayfield is an injury concern after MNF’s loss to the Lions

Baker Mayfield didn’t have his best outing on monday, like Tampa Bay Buccaneers bowed to the Detroit Lions, 24-9, at Ford Field.

Mayfield struggled against the Lions defense in a straitjacketgoing 28-of-50 for 228 yards and one touchdown. He threw an interception and was sacked four times, which tied for the most this season.

It didn’t help the Buccaneers either lost Mike Evans to a collarbone injury in the second quarter, leaving Mayfield without one of his favorite targets.

The 30-year-old quarterback, too he appeared to have injured himself against the lions. According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Mayfield had a “distinct limp on his way to the locker room.”

It goes without saying that the Buccaneers can’t afford to lose Mayfield, who is coming off another productive campaign. In seven games, he threw for 1,767 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The two-time Pro Bowler hasn’t missed a game since 2022.

The Buccaneers attempted one last drive in the fourth quarter, but Mayfield’s incomplete pass in the end zone with just four minutes left sealed their fate.

He admitted that they were they didn’t play to their standards against the lions. They fell to 5-2 and failed to extend their winning streak to three games.

“As a skill group, we haven’t connected in a lot of games. Once the defense knows we’re going to have to pass, they can jam their ears. It’s not a fair situation for the offensive line,” Mayfield said, according to an Associated Press report.

The Buccaneers will look to bounce back in Week 8 against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
