Bam Adebayo highlights Davion Mitchell’s “blender” impact amid injury comeback
MIAMI – With The Miami Heat are dealing with a relatively frustrating season as the team chases a level of consistency, there’s no denying that injuries have been the main reason the roster has returned. As it is The Heat are still without Herroas he misses his 41st game on Wednesday, the other player to miss some time and return on Sunday was point guard Davion Mitchell.
Before Sunday’s 43-point victory over the Chicago Bulls, 134-91, Miami’s starting point guard had missed seven games earlier with a sprained shoulder. After returning straight to the starting line-up, his impact was felt tremendously on both sides of the ball, as the captain echoed the same sentiments. Bam Adebayogoing so far as to say that Mitchell has a “blender” effect on miami.
“Defensively, you see it off the rebound,” Adebayo said. “You see how much pressure he puts on the ball handler, how he goes through screens. And offensively, when you get the ball to Davion, he starts the blender for us, as Spo likes to say. … You need someone who can push the tempo, get into the game, make easy plays and get us going.”

In his return to action, Mitchell scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, 3-of-5 from deep, with six assists. Mitchell would tell ClutchPoints after the game that he did “I feel good,” though he had to catch his wind.
“I was kind of tired after that first wind because I didn’t play a minute of the game, but after I got the first wind I was good, I tried to come out and just be aggressive,” said Mitchell, who is averaging a team-leading 7.2 assists per game.
He asked Davion Mitchell how he was feeling, especially with the performance Miami had tonight.

The warmth Erik Spoelstra about what Davion Mitchell brings to both sides

While it is The Heat are still missing Norman Powell for the first time in the All-Star Game for “personal reasons,” Mitchell wants to bring a comfortable and energetic feel to the team that is needed. Miami lacked a true point guard who could set up others and play flawless defense, and Mitchell fit the bill, especially in the team’s new offense that favors a fast pace.
“(Mitchell) brings us that pace,” Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said after the win over the Bulls. “There’s something about the way he pushes the ball and delivers it. He’s our best guy up front. His pace is great. The ball moves great when he’s in the game.”
“And then defensively, you know, he just gives us a next-level point guard on offense, where he’s earned that reputation,” Spoelstra continued. “Sometimes, you know, things tie up because guys don’t want to be careless, trying to attack him, so it just takes away some drives and then the ones he takes care of himself. It was great to get him back.”

One area Mitchell has also brought is even mentoring the team’s other point guards, especially rookie Kasparas Yakutsionis.
“I think we all have different games,” Mitchell said. “We affect the game in all different ways. I think for me, I try to teach (Jakucionis) as much as I can. I was a rookie before, and I saw how people get picked. Well, people tried to pick on me, too, when I was a rookie. So it’s kind of just to help him with the defensive stuff, and I try to tell him.”
