As the heart and soul of the Heat, Adebayo hasn’t missed a game since Dec. 27, when he went down with back strain. Hip tightening now has it back to the injury reportbut Adebayo’s probable status suggests he will play on Sunday.

While Miami has struggled to be consistent, Adebayo has been dominant over the past three weeks. The three-time All-Star was quiet at the start of January, but has had some paint on both ends of the floor since righting the ship, averaging 21.7 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals over his last 14 games.

Adebayo is coming off a somewhat disappointing game against the Boston Celtics, in which he had just 16 points and seven rebounds in the two-point loss.

Second-year center Kel’el Ware will likely get the call if Adebayo can’t go, and Nikola Jovic is in line for increased minutes. But barring a last-minute setback, Adebayo will be on the court for the Heat in the nation’s capital.

Norman Powell’s injury status against the Wizards

Powell’s injury is more of a concern than Adebayo’s, as he left the game against the Celtics before returning in the fourth quarter. All-Star 2026 he injured his hand on a quick drive to the basket and was considered questionable to return before eventually returning to the court in the final frame.

However, while Powell was initially listed as questionable, he has since been upgraded to probable. His progress also makes it likely that he will avoid the absence and suit up on Sunday afternoon.

Despite being limited by a hand injury, Powell still scored 24 points against the Celtics, his third straight game of 20 or more. His early success contributed to Miami’s 21-point halftime lead, and his absence in the third quarter equally affected Boston’s comeback.

The Heat will be without Pele Larsson, who also suffered an injury against Boston. Larsson’s absence will put extra pressure on Davion Mitchell, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Powell, who should all be ready to go against the Wizards.
