Bam Adebayo on what Miami needs to do to stop being ‘mediocre’
MIAMI – While it was encouraging signs from the Miami Heat after beating the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday to start a three-game homestand, the momentum quickly soured with Thursday’s 119-114 loss to the Boston Celtics. The The lack of heat was fully visible on Thursday night as the team reached the halfway mark of the season.
This gave them a reality check, as a captain Bam Adebayo placed where they stand.
After the loss to Boston, Miami is now 21-20, which puts them in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, a familiar spot since the team has finished there the last three seasons. Some may argue that the franchise has done little to show they’ve improved, despite a hot start to the season and showing flashes of a great team, especially in an effort to change its offensive identity to a free, fast-paced style.
However, the Heat have regressed to the mean, as Adebayo told ClutchPoints that while Miami is better than what the record shows, if the team is unable to follow a certain principle, they will remain at “medium.”
“We’re better than what our record says, but until we all commit to playing our roles, we’re going to be in the middle, mediocre,” Adebayo said after posting 22 points, four rebounds and five assists. “Until the guys get sick of that middle position of being seventh, eighth, and they don’t really want to lose to being fourth or third in the East. We’re going to stay there.”
Asked Bam Adebayo about being 21-20:
“We’re better than what our record says, but until we all commit to doing things as role players, we’re going to stay in the middle and mediocre. Until guys can afford to be 7th and 8th … we’re going to stay here…” #HeatNation pic.twitter.com/chN3VtLUNs

Now the question is: is the roster anywhere near where they think it is, or is there still a lot of work to do? For Tyler Herrowho scored 22 points, they are “Right there.”

Erik Spoelstra on playing as it says on the record Heat are

As it is Rumors of a heat trade will intensify After what has been a mediocre season so far, there seems to be an understanding within the team that Miami is close to reaching the level they believe they are. Coach Erik Spoelstra talked after the game about how rebounding and second-chance points stifled the Heat, which was true, as they were outshot on the glass 51-40, giving up 31 second-chance points.
When talking about the downsides of the night, Spoelstra would emphasize how their problems boil down to “competitive toughness”.
“Basically, that’s it. We feel like we’re better than we are, but we are what our record is right now. That’s the bottom line. If you played the games on paper, I think we’d have a better record right now. But, you know, that’s not the case right now,” Spoelstra said.
Erik Spoelstra said that was no excuse for them as effectively as Boston crashed the glass, he expressed that it was a big negative for Miami.

Thursday night was especially frustrating as Miami once again got off to a great start with 36 points in the opening period, but the second half was their downfall. Although the third quarter would hurt them, this time it was the final frame, losing the double-digit lead they had, being outscored 36-21 in the period.
Norman Powell says the heat is “on the fringes”
With The Heat are looking to turn around their inconsistent seasonthere’s no denying that there are parts of the team that could make some noise and find the coherence they’re looking for. One of the standouts was Norman Powell, who once again led Miami with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, who told ClutchPoints they’re not far from being what they know they can be, “if it’s on the margin.”
“Honestly, it’s not like we have to reinvent the wheel,” Powell said. “But are we going to do it or not?… It’s up to us to win the game on the margins. We’re doing it, we’re good. If you look on paper, look at our averages and things like that, we’re right there with teams, but especially when we play teams that know how to win, have that winning DNA, know how to win, know how to win, know how to win, know how to win. wins, even when it’s not pretty.”
“And that’s what we’re trying to get at, that’s where our obstacle is, our Achilles’ heel, are we going to give up when adversity hits us individually, collectively?” Powell continued. “Are we going to mentally tough it out and buckle down and toughen up and push through and do what it takes and find ways to impact the game and find ways to impact the win? … It’s just literally on us to have the mental strength and the competitive will to want to win and what we want to make of this season.”
He asked Norman Powell if the Heat are close to being the team they think they are or if there is still work to be done.

As Powell mentioned, some stats show that the Heat are a scary team, such as 5th in the NBA in scoring at 119.4 points per game, leading the league in pace with 104.77 possessions per 48 minutes, and are seventh in defensive rating. Either way, it looks like Miami will begin the second half of the season afresh with Friday morning practice, though that’s easier said than done as the team plays the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night.
