Bediako is eligible for more games after the ruling

One of the biggest stories in college sports is what happens with Alabama basketball program. The Crimson Tide is the latest basketball team to try to break out of the gray area of college eligibility rules. Former Crimson Tide player Charles Bediak has been granted a temporary restraining order to return to Alabama after spending the past two years in the G League.
The restraining order was temporary, and a second hearing is scheduled for next week. however, it was postponed once againleaving Bediak eligible for two more games, against Missouri and Florida. Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports was one of the first to report the expansion.
“This matter has come before the Court in a virtual status conference at the request of the parties because Taylor Askew, the attorney for the NCAA Defendant, who is located in Tennessee, was unable to attend the hearing scheduled for tomorrow due to weather issues affecting the area where he lives,” Roberts said in the court document, according to Ryan of the Tuscaloosa Patch.
In the first game in which Bediako was eligible to play, he finished with 13 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals and blocks in a total of 25 minutes of action.
Between 2021 and 2023, Bediako played 70 games and started 67. He averaged 6.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 19.3 minutes per game. He was a member of the All-SEC Freshman Team his freshman year and the Conference All-Defensive Team his sophomore year.
Charles Bediak’s return to college basketball is the latest eligibility case to come under heavy scrutiny in the college basketball world. The first was James Nnajiwho was drafted in the 2023 NBA draft and is under contract with the New York Knicks. The eligibility cases are called into question because neither player has ever played in the NBA, but both have played in the G League.
Bediak’s case is also getting extra scrutiny because the judge who ruled in his favor has a significant connection to the Crimson Tide as a donor, both he and his wife.
