Ben Simmons joins a new team – in professional fishing
With his NBA career on hold, Ben Simmons he turned to the world of professional fishing. Simmons is the new controlling operator of the South Florida Sails of the Sport Fishing Championship, a professional offshore saltwater fishing league.
While the former Philadelphia 76ers star pursues his passion for fishing, still ponders his NBA future. Simmons, who is a free agent after spending the second half of last season with Los Angeles Clippers, Andscape’s Marc J said. Spears to work six days a week in Los Angeles.
However, he is in no rush to return to the hardwood.
“I don’t believe it’s just (about) making the team,” Simmons said. “So if I were to play now, I think I’d fit in the NBA just because of what I can do. But I want to give everything I can to the game. I don’t think there’s any sense in losing a spot just to be there. I think it’s a little selfish. And there are guys who are doing that right now. But that’s what the job is.
“For me, I’m very blessed that I don’t have to be in a situation where I have to fight right now. But I want to be at my best and peak physically to compete. Otherwise, it doesn’t really serve any purpose for me.”
After a messy exit from the 76ers, Simmons was never able to regain his All-Star form as he battled injuries with Brooklyn Nets.

The former first-round pick joined the Clippers midway through last season after agreeing to a buyout with the Nets. However, in Los Angeles he still looked like a shell of his old self.
Simmons averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 16.4 minutes per game in 18 appearances for the Clippers. He shot a career-high 43.4 percent from the field while attempting a career-low 6.5 field goals per 36 minutes.
The New York Knicks and Boston Celtics have shown interest in signing Simmons on a minimum contract this summer. However, the 29-year-old has been considering retirement, according to Stefan Bondi of the New York Post. Simmons was dropped by his agentBernie Lee, amid retirement rumors.
Although it is unclear if he will step on an NBA court again, Simmons is keeping himself physically fit. The Aussie told Spears that he is “doing basketball twice a day, strength training and rehab six days a week hoping to be fully healthy.”
