Bill Simmons floats Anthony Davis for the Karl-Anthony Towns trade

The The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly explores the potential Anthony Davis trading scenarios the past few weeks as they look to hand the reins of the franchise to No. 1 overall draft pick Cooper Flagg, who is off to a strong start to his NBA career. Unfortunately, Davis’ massive contract and injury history have not made that an easy task so far.
Recently, a sports media personality Bill Simmons by The Ringer floated potential business idea for Davis to join the New York Knicks.
“I feel like I ask this question every three weeks, but would you consider Davis for (Karl-Anthony) Towns?” Simmons wondered.
“A few weeks ago the answer was no, because Towns had a good year and Davis hasn’t proven he can stay on the field at all. Now I think it makes a little more sense,” he added.
Karl-Anthony Towns has struggled for the Knicks over the past few weeks, putting up shockingly low numbers as the team suffered through a four-game losing streak.
However, Davis hasn’t quite lit it up this year, at least by his Hall of Fame standards, for the Mavericks, and he’s also struggled to stay on the court due to an injury that has plagued him throughout his career.
At this point, it seems unlikely that the Knicks are considering such a move, although some fans pointed out during last year’s Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers that New York’s two best players, Towns and Jalen Brunson, who are both negative defenders, made the duo unviable at the championship level. Defense certainly wouldn’t be a problem for Davis.
In any case, it remains to be seen if anything will even come to fruition on the Davis trade front, let alone a blockbuster deal with the Knicks for Towns.
