Bill Simmons presents Trey Murphy trade destination as ‘wild card’

Bill Simmons had an intriguing trade scenario for the New Orleans Pelicansespecially when it involves Trey Murphy III.

Murphy is in his fifth NBA season, all with the Pelicans. He rose to become a two-way star, shining as a standout on both sides of the ball.

However, the team’s struggles have forced trade proposal scenarios to surface. With a franchise in need of a major rebuild, Murphy had his name in trade rumors.

Simmons offered his thoughts on the Pelicans situation during a Dec. 8 episode of his self-titled podcast. He believes that the Denver Nuggets would be a significant candidate to gain Murphy’s services.

“The only other one is Denver who would be Trey Murphy’s wild card team. Everyone will say San Antonio, Detroit, all the usual suspects. But Denver can go to Mac Daddy. Trade Cam Johnson, who they just traded for, throw some extra picks into New Orleans and get Trey Murphy. That’s the only team that can get Simmons in OKC: Simmons19 said.

Bill Simmons has the right idea when it comes to teams that would love to take full advantage of Trey Murphy III’s skill set. The Nuggets are definitely one of those teams that can provide a two-way situation where they can succeed.

22 games into the season, Murphy averaged 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He is shooting 46.8% from the field, including 36.3% from beyond the arc and 92% from the free throw line.

Meanwhile, Murphy and the Pelicans suffered a big loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night. Despite their efforts to keep pace with their playoff-chasing opponents, they haven’t been able to come up with enough big plays down the stretch to pull off an upset.

New Orleans fell to a 3-22 record on the season, remaining at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. They are 3.5 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings.

Coming off a seven-game losing streak, the Pelicans will look to get back into the win column in their next game. They will be at home when they host the Portland Trail Blazers on December 11th at 8:00 PM ET.
