Billy Donovan reveals what the front office said about the new players

The Chicago Bulls are in a real state of limbo. They are in in the midst of an 11-game losing streakincluding going through February without a win. In addition, they are still coming to terms with the new roster following the seven great trades.

Most recently, head coach Billy Donovan shared publicly what the front office told him about the new players, according to Paolo Songko of ChiCity Sports.

Basically, management has a very lukewarm approach. In other words, go out and do your best.

“The conversations I had with (the front office) when the trade deadline ended was, ‘Nothing’s changed, try to get these guys to play the best they can; we know it’s going to be a little bit challenging with seven new players,'” Donovan said. “Even when we talked to ownership, it was, ‘Hey, do your best,’ and. There was no indication from the owner or the front office, ‘Hey, listen, if we end up here, here or here,’ or ‘Listen, don’t worry about playing these guys; just play these guys.’ There was none of that at all.”

Although they are Taurus denying allegations of tankingDonovan recognizes that they are in a prime position to pull back.

“Philosophically speaking, I get the dynamic once in June, whatever the draft date is, I understand how it affects all of that,” he continued. “It’s not like I’m sitting there saying, ‘Well, it’s close to the games now, let’s sit Josh (Giddy) and Tre (Jones) and Jaylen (Smith).’ There was no such thing. And I think if I did that, they’d say, ‘Listen, you’ve got to put the best guys in there.’ ”

On Sunday, the Bulls will play the Milwaukee Bucks to kick off March.
