Boston was “cautious” about signing Pete Alonso
on Wednesday, Pete Alonso he finally found a new home. After spending the first seven seasons of his career with the New York Mets, it was announced that it was Alonso decided to sign with the Baltimore Orioles to a five-year, $155 million deal – a deal that would pay him an average of $31 million over the course of that deal. But before Alonso signed with the Orioles, he had plenty of suitors, including another AL East team in the Boston Red Sox.
However, the Red Sox ultimately couldn’t qualify as a serious suitor for Alonso. According to Tim Healey of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox’s final offer because the veteran first baseman was for “fewer years and significantly less money” than what the Orioles put on the table. This was because they were “cautious” about his age and how old the contract might get.
Considering Red Sox’s deals latelytheir aversion to going all out in the pursuit of Alonso, despite their need for a heavy-hitting striker in the middle of the lineup, is not surprising. After all, this was the team that traded for Rafael Devers in the early stages of his massive contract extension.
Alonso is now 31 years old and has been remarkably consistent throughout his career, so perhaps the veteran first baseman could prove the Red Sox wrong now that they share the same division.
Red Sok is looking for more energy production

Last season, Trevor Story led the Red Sox in home runs, with 25. Although Boston ranked seventh in total runs scored last season, they are looking to increase their production even more to keep pace with the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees.
Alonso and Kyle Schwarber, two of the best power options in free agency, are gone. A trade might be their best way to acquire power bat they need, and they have the wherewithal to make a blockbuster hit for someone like Corey Seager anyway.
