Brad Marchand earns ‘excellent’ Eetu Luostarinen

Wins are suddenly hard to come by Brad Marchand and the Florida Panthersas the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions had lost for its second game in a row on Wednesday night at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena, 4-1. It also means Florida remains winless in its first trip to the 2025-26 NHL season, falling to the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 at Xfinity Mobile Arena last Monday.

Despite the recent losses, Marchand has provided the team with strong play, especially on offense. The 27-year-old veteran forward, who has now recorded at least a point in four straight games, scored the Panthers’ only goal against Detroit on an assist from Anton Lundell in the second period to cut the Red Wings’ lead in half, 2-1.

However, the Panthers were unable to get going in the third period, as the Red Wings scored two empty-net goals to seal the victory.

Florida is now down two games, but it is certainly not for an apparent lack of tryingespecially on Marchand’s side.

“He’s a great asset for us. That’s a great thing. The way he works every day, it’s been good,” Panthers center Eetu Luostarinen said of Marchand after the game, per Jameson Olivo of the Florida team’s official website.

So far in the 2025-26 NHL regular season, Marchand, who signed a six-year extension with Florida after winning a Stanley Cup with the Panthersleads his team with three goals and two assists. His five points are tied with Lundell for the most on the team.

The journey of Marchand and the Panthers is far from over. They have a quick turnaround after the loss to the Red Wings, as the Panthers have a date with the New Jersey Devils this Thursday at the Prudential Center in Newark. It doesn’t look like an easy break for Florida, with the Devils on a two-game winning streak. The Panthers will next face the Buffalo Sabers at KeyBank Center on Saturday before finishing their trip to Marchand’s old stomping grounds with a matchup against his former team, the Boston Bruins, at TD Garden.
