Braden Huff will miss at least a month with a knee injury

Gonzaga will have to find other ways to stay competitive in the coming weeks after being dealt a tough blow to forward Braden Huff.

Huff ran a coming-out campaign as a sophomore, he averaged 17.8 points and 5.6 rebounds. He teamed with forward Graden Ike in leading the Bulldogs to an 18-1 record, including 6-0 in the VCC.

Hough, however, suffered a knee injury in practice earlier this week and will miss significant time.

“Gonzaga’s Braden Huff is OUT 4-8 weeks with a left knee injury, according to a school spokesman,” CBS Sports’ John Rothstein reported.

“The school is optimistic they will be back this season. Great news.”

A longer absence of the 22-year-old Huff will hurt the team, but Gonzaga has plenty of depth to fill production in the front field. Ike will have to carry more of the load, while forwards Emmanuel Innocenti and Tion Grant-Foster and center Ismail Diagne must step up.

With the given timeline, Huff could return before the end of the regular season or be sidelined until the NCAA tournament.

The ninth-ranked Bulldogs didn’t miss Huff too much in Thursday’s 86-65 win over Washington. They won their 11th game in a row.

Ike had another masterful game with 23 points on 11-of-13 shooting with 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals. Adam Miller had 13 points, five assists and two steals, while Jalen Worley had 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, four steals and two blocks.

Gonzaga returns to action on Saturday against Seattle.
