Brandon Clark returns, more good news for the Grizzlies
Without Anthony Edwards, the Wolves thought they had done the hard part of taking control of the match in the third quarter. Except it is Grizzliesalso downsized (without Ja Morant or Zach Edey), they once again found a collective solution to turn things around, to impose themselves 116-110and confirm their dynamics.
In this and often this season, Memphis could count on the contribution of its bench, especially on Jock Landaleauthor of a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
We have to thank the system we play in and the staff who make sure we are ready all the time. explains the Grizzly player. “Everyone comes to training knowing that they will have the opportunity to play. Rudy Gobert is a monster and it is always complicated to play against him. He has a lot of weight in the circle game, he is everywhere on rebounds and is a threat in the alley. Oops. At the beginning of the game he punished the way we defended, but the mentality remained the same in the match. We found the same solutions in every match. We hope it will be good.
In addition to Jock Landale, the Grizzlies could count on another solid performance Jaren Jackson Jr. After being one of the tormentors of the Clippers, he followed up on the Wolves with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Find sensations and rhythm
The other good news for Memphis besides the win is the comeback Brandon Clarke. After almost nine months of absence due to several injuries, the strong winger found himself directly in the starting five, for a delicate return: 6 points on 2/7 shooting and 3 rebounds in 17 minutes.
“I feel good,” says the winger. “I’m happy to be reunited with my teammates and for the win. I’m trying to find sensations, confidence and rhythm again. It’s been a long time since I played, but it’s still fun. I don’t think anyone expected me to start, but we won.”
With this success, Memphis has its fourth win in five games and is getting closer to an even record (13 wins – 14 losses). After a complicated start to the season, Tuomas Iisal’s men have found color thanks to a well-oiled collective where every player contributes to the build-up, whether Zach Edey thanks to his rebounding sense or bench players such as a Cam Spencer in very good condition several weeks even if he was absent against the Wolves or the important Jock Landale in this success against Minnesota.
“It’s a natural progression because the guys work every day,” the Grizzly coach simply points out. “When we struggled at the beginning of the season, everyone was thinking about what we could do better. Some guys took on bigger roles, which they certainly never had in their careers. I’m really proud of them because I see how hard they work.”
