Brian Schottenheimer on replacing a key lineman against the Cardinals

The Dallas Cowboys absorbed a tough loss at home after falling to the Arizona Cardinals, 27-17, at AT&T Stadium on Monday. The Cardinals snapped a five-game losing streak, while the The Cowboys dropped back-to-back games for the first time under the coach Brian Schottenheimer.
The Cowboys were defeated by the Denver Broncos, 44-24, in Week 8. They now have a 3-5-1 record after back-to-back losses.
Schottenheimer dug deep and tried another unit for the offensive line, as he tried to get Dallas back into the game. He took out Terence Steele in the second half and inserted Nathan Thomas. The move was for naught, however, as Arizona kept control of the game.
After the contest, Schottenheimer, 52, explained that he inserted Thomas because he “wanted to see what Nate was going to do,” as reported by Cowboys reporter Joseph Hoyt.
Perhaps Schottenheimer hoped that Thomas could bring energy to the offensive line and help Duck Prescott find more ways to create in the midst of the Cardinal’s swarm of defenses.
Prescott went 24 of 39 for 250 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He was fired five times.
Thomas, 24, was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round in 2024 and placed on injured reserve. He played eight games this season.
Meanwhile, Steele, 28, has been in Dallas since 2020 after going undrafted that year. He started every game the last three seasons.
It’s unclear whether Schottenheimer will give Thomas more playing time, especially since the Cowboys are still looking for more consistency.
They will have a bye week before returning to action against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 17.
