Brian Windhorst is calling it quits after the 76ers’ disastrous season

“This is on the horizon for one of the worst season disasters in the modern NBA era,” Windhorst said. “I don’t know if I’d say the Lakers when they got Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, this is going to be fun, because I don’t think it was the same.”

“There’s no Kobe on this roster, but it’s like this was a championship offseason.” Come on let’s compete with the Celtics and you know we’re having conversations about their Top 6 protected pick. This is a Grade A disaster unfolding here in Philadelphia.”

Brian Windhorst thinks the 76ers are another level of bad

The talent is evident on a stacked 76ers team. However, these points per game and statistics tell a different story. For example, George has one of the worst scoring averages of his career. He is an average of 17.2 pointsfirst time he had fewer than 20 points since 2014.

Conversely, Embiid has missed plenty of time this season. The absence of two superstars left Maxey essentially carrying the team by himself. While he’s filled the void as best he can, missing two All-Stars and even two All-NBA players doesn’t make things any easier.

The 76ers are in a strange position. They want to compete for the playoffs, but they don’t want to take a chance and lose out on their Top 6 protected draft pick. That pick would go to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Still, there are many elements that have made for an underwhelming season for Philadelphia.

The The 76ers have their share of franchises with Maxey. Still, the expectation was to compete with teams like the Celtics, the New York Knicks, and now the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now it’s either opting out of the playoffs or even tanking to protect their draft pick.

At the end of the day, it’s a tough situation for the 76ers. Windhorst’s criticism speaks to the franchise’s success this season. Unless there is an instant reversal, his remarks may come true.
