Brock Purdy likely won’t play in Week 8 against the Texans
On Sunday night, The San Francisco 49ers have improved to 5-2 in the young NFL season in 2025 with an impressive home win over the Atlanta Falcons. While quarterback Mack Jones starts again in place of the injured Brock Purdyhe didn’t have a huge game, he didn’t need it, as a running back Christian McCaffrey picked up the slackturning in his biggest game of the season to win.
While Jones has played well, 49ers fans are understandably anxious for news on Purdy’s return, and they got one Monday afternoon it was not particularly encouraging.
“QB Brock Purdy is probably a reach to return this week in Houston, ‘it’s going to continue like last week,'” (49ers coach Kyle) Shanahan said, noting that Houston’s field isn’t a factor,” Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Inman also noted that “DE Bryce Huff (hamstring) and C Jake Brandel (hamstring) (are) out for a couple of weeks…” and that “CB Renardo Green has no toes.”
All in all, it was an injury-heavy update for a 49ers team already reeling in that department, having recently lost star quarterback Fred Warner for the year.
A resilient 49ers team

For all the injury concerns, the San Francisco 49ers have managed to continue playing winning football on both sides of the ball so far this year, pushing their record to 5-2 despite facing some elite teams thus far.
It’s a testament to the coaching staff, led by head coach Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, that the team was able to play so well while missing so many key pieces.
Still, to have a legitimate shot at competing for a Super Bowl championship, the 49ers will want to get their key pieces back into the lineup as soon as possible, starting with Purdy, whose injury struggles have continued this season.
The 49ers will next take the field on Sunday against the Houston Texans at 1:00 PM ET.
