Broken thumb for Corey Kispert, in the infirmary for several weeks
last tuesday, Wizards snapped a 14-game losing streak by dominating the Hawks. The evening was not perfect, however, since Corey Kispert was injured during the third quarter. The full-back/winger is suffering from a broken thumb and will be out for several weeks.
This layoff comes at a time when the former Gonzaga seemed to be finding his groove. Recently integrated into Brian Keefe’s starting five, he just put together two very convincing performances: 20 points on 7/10 shooting in a narrow loss to the Bulls, then 19 points on 6/11 in a win against the Hawks.
Two outings that contrast with his sluggish start to the season, marked by a drop in playing time. For the first time in his career, he played less than twenty minutes per game, and averaged only 8.9 points, which is his lowest total in the NBA. He’s still a very good shooter, though, shooting 50% overall and 40% on 3-pointers.
Corey Kispert will not need surgery, according to Josh Robbins of the Athletics. Although the exact duration of its unavailability is not yet known, the journalist recalls that it generally takes about three weeks to recover from such an injury.
To make up for this absence, Brian Keefe could potentially see more playing time Cam Whitmorewho has averaged 17 minutes for 9.4 points per game so far.
