Buster Posey, Tony Vitello share laughs about 2014 World Series nostalgia

There’s no questioning Tony Vitello’s enthusiasm after his hired as a new manager of the San Francisco Giants. Not only is he a new manager, but he is also the first college coach to lead a major league club.

He’s coming down be a successful manager at the University of Tennessee.

Vitello was introduced during his first press conference in San Francisco on Thursday. While there, he was joined by the former Giants catcher Buster Posey and looked back on a significant moment in franchise history, according to the SF Giants on NBCS.

Vitello stated that he was in Game 7 of the World Series in 2014. Specifically, he remembers Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals securing a triple in the 9th inning. Gordon hit a ball to left field and the ball was thrown away, causing Gordon to go to third.

However, Gordon was stopped at third and did not score when he was tied. After that, the Giants won Game 7 3-2 and their third title in five years.

When Vitello mentioned that moment, Posey responded with a few words that brought a smile.

“I’ll take it.” Posey said.

It was the last time the Giants won the World Series. They finished 81-81 last year and missed the postseason.

Vitello comes following firing Bob Melvin.
