Cade Cunningham has the last word against the Hawks

Cade Cunningham

After victory forfeited after a double overtime against the SixersThe Hawks traveled to Detroit to play the second part of their back-to-back. If Nickeil Alexander-Walker (26 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) opens the scoring, this start of the match is complicated for both teams, who cannot start and lack skill.

As a result, neither Detroit nor Atlanta were able to clinch the game. However, the shooting of Onyek Okongwu (20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) allowed the Hawks to lead 27-25 after twelve minutes of play. From the start of the next period, the Pistons quickly lost two possessions, but Quin Snyder’s men failed to take advantage of these turnovers to give themselves some breathing room. Detroit then took advantage of Ron Holland’s 2+1 (17 points on 6/8 shooting) and got back in front (28-27).

The Pistons winger quickly scored eight points early in the second act, but he appears to be the only one back in his game as Detroit continues to rack up turnovers. The locals therefore cannot break away and, worse, they see Atlanta go back in front after a clash between Nikhil Alexander Walker and Onyeka Okongwu (43-41). However, the Pistons lead going into the locker room (50-49).

The end of the match belongs to Cade Cunningham

After the break, the Hawks went on an 8-2 run, during which Jaylen Johnson (29 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists) started to shine, but Detroit did not let it fall behind and regained the lead thanks to Auzar Thompson. Then we start again in a fresh exchange of blows until JB Bickerstaff’s men accelerate at the end of the third act, with an 8-0 run to regain the advantage before the start of the fourth quarter (74-68). It starts with Jalen Johnson’s 2+1 before Nikki Alexander-Walker tied it (82-82). The Hawks continue and lead by five points, but the machine stops: four minutes the guests cannot score a single point, and Detroit uses the opportunity to score 11-0 and give themselves a break (95-89).

It’s just not enough to bury Atlanta, which equalizes thanks to two long-range shots by the Johnson-Alexander-Walker duo. To seal the fate of this match, Cade Cunningham appears (18 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists), although so far discreet. In the final minute, the leader started with a mid-range shot against Dyson Daniels, then followed it up with a complicated layup in the final seconds. The two drives allow Detroit to win the short-handed game, 99-98, and earn its second straight win before taking on Milwaukee on Wednesday.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

Trench warfare. Whether it was the Hawks or the Pistons, both teams relied on their defense to stay in the game. On the one hand, Atlanta forced the Pistons into 22 turnovers, but Detroit won the rebound with 60 shots compared to just 34 for the visitors. Consequently, despite not being skilled, the Pistons were able to give themselves numerous other scoring opportunities.

Ron Holland, the answer off the bench for Detroit. With a tricky Big Five, Detroit could count on the contribution of its bullpen to stay in the game. For starters, there was a good pass by Ron Holland in the second act. In the 8-0 of the third quarter, the wing center accompanied by Caris LeVert once again proved himself. He then scored six points in the final act to finish the night with 17 points, more than the entire Atlanta bench that scored just nine points.

Complicated evening for Zacharie Risacher. In contrast, Atlanta counted on its starters to stay in the game with three players with more than twenty points, but Zachary Rizaher was thwarted. If the Frenchman showed himself in defense with three interceptions, he did not skillfully finish the night with four points on 1/7 shooting.
