Cade Cunningham is on injury status for the Kings’ upcoming game

The Detroit Pistons (32-11) still have a decent cushion in the Eastern Conference standings halfway through the 2025-26 NBA season, making a big jump from last year and establishing themselves as a legitimate title contender. What’s most astonishing about their continued excellence is that their best player this month isn’t even playing well. Early candidate for MVP, All-Star starter Cade Cunningham was struggling with a nagging wrist injury.
He is still dealing with the problem, but intends to fight for the Pistons’ next game. Cunningham is listed as probable for Sunday afternoon’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings (12-34), per the latter NBA injury report. Detroit might be able to beat a hopeless Western Conference team without its franchise cornerstone, but head coach JB Bickerstaff clearly wants to see a healthy Cunningham in action when possible.
Healthy is the key word though. The Pistons are currently the team to beat in the East, and despite his recent struggles, the 24-year-old point guard has been at the forefront of their revival. He scores 25.3 points on 45.1 percent shooting from the field and 32.1 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line, and records 9.7 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Cade Cunningham, however, is down in the new year.
The No. 1 overall pick in 2021 is shooting 36.5 percent from the floor and 27.3 percent from 3-point range, averaging 20.1 points over his last seven games. He missed a few matches earlier in January and appears to be still hampered by a wrist problem. Cunningham is already not the cleanest scorer, so such a setback could obviously have a noticeable negative impact on his performance. And that’s been happening lately.
Home game against the team with the lowest barrel that is allowing the second highest field goal percentage in the NBA seems like an ideal place to land the No. 2 spot. The Pistons and Kings tip off around 3:00 PM ET at Little Caesars Arena.
