Cade Cunningham sounds nonplussed about the clutch takedown that doomed the Hawks

The The Detroit Pistons are certainly getting the heat from their fellow Eastern Conference teams; after a brilliant start to the 2025-26 campaign, they have become hunted among their peers. So on Monday night, they took another haymaker from another ambitious East contender in the Atlanta Hawks even though it was the second night in a row. But in the end, the Pistons buckled down on defense and Cade Cunningham led them home with a couple clutch en route to a 99-98 win.

Cunningham scored eight of the Pistons’ final 10 points of the game, including his team’s final two field goals, which put the game out of reach for the Hawks despite their best efforts at the end to steal the victory. The Pistons star is the fourth-quarter scoring leader so far this season for a reason, and he shined once again when it mattered most — throwing elite defenders like Dyson Daniels and Nikhil Alexander-Walker into the mix.

The Pistons star, who finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and a ridiculous seven steals tonight, gave his thoughts on earning his team another hard-fought victory.

“I mean, it’s just trust in my work, trust, you know, my Lord, trust in my faith, and you know, my teammates trust me with the ball. So, you know, it’s my time to go out there and do something with it,” Cunningham said in his postgame interview with FanDuel Sports Network’s Natalie Kerwin.

The The Pistons have played in some nerve-racking games the last days. But after losing close games against the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic last week, they won two straight close games, beating the Miami Heat and then the Hawks.

Cunningham added that it was nice for him to provide for his team as they continue to try to increase their lead in the Eastern Conference standings.

“I was, you know, shaken up the last few games at the end of the game, so I knew I had to come up big. It was a close game, we really needed this game, I’m so glad I got it done for my team,” Cunningham added.
