Cade Cunningham’s MVP resume grows with the latest feat

The Detroit Pistons have been consistently winning throughout the 2025-26 season, currently at 45-14 heading into Tuesday night big game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. It’s the Pistons led by point guard Cade Cunninghamwho began earning MVP honors in recent weeks due to injuries to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic, which put their eligibility for the awards in question.

Cunningham was recently named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Month, and as the Pistons noted on X, formerly Twitter, he the only player in the league to accomplish that feat twice this season.

It was a breakthrough campaign for the striker in the 2025-26 season. Cunningham was already considered one of the best guards in the league heading into the year, but he found ways to elevate his game to a new level this season, allowing the Pistons to climb to the top of the Eastern Conference standings despite not having any other proven playmakers on the perimeter.

That being the case, there was concern that Cunningham’s lack of a reliable supporting cast could threaten Detroit come playoff time, with the team largely opting to stay quiet during the recent NBA trade deadline.

The good news, though, is that Cunningham’s physical brand of basketball should carry over to the playoffs in a big way, even when he was somewhat up and down in his postseason debut last year in a tough six-game loss to the New York Knicks.

It also helps that Detroit is among the best defensive teams in the league, which will surely help them make the playoffs.

Either way, the Pistons and Cavaliers are set to tip things off Tuesday night at 7:00 PM ET from Cleveland.
