Calvin Austin III thinks the “over-lit” crowd scared Tyler Lupe

The Pittsburgh The Steelers were able to survive the Baltimore Ravens in the 18th week after a missed field goal by Tyler Lupa. The Steelers just scored a field goal, but Chris Boswell missed the PAT to give them a three-point lead. That meant all the Ravens had to do was get into field goal range to win the game, and they scored first on a big catch by Isaiah Likely.

It was left to Lupe to finish the job with a 44-yard field goal, and as soon as it left his foot, the ball went to the far right and the Steelers crowd was jumping for joy.

After the game, Calvin Austin credited the crowd with why Lupp missed the field goal, helping the Steelers win the AFC North and make the playoffs.

“Our crowd was too lit today. There was no way he was going to hit it,” Austin said.

Austin was also a player who caught the green light Aaron Rodgers’ touchdown pass late in the game. He shared that he will give the ball to his father.

“The 8 called the play, he called the route,” Austin said. “I came out and executed it. We practiced that route for a minute and you never know when it’s going to happen. Shout out to the 8 for believing in me, and it was a perfect pass.”

Some of the players on the sidelines had a feeling that Loop would miss it, while others didn’t even want to watch the shot. That happened to be a conversation between Kenneth Gainwell and Jaylen Warren.

“I was sitting there talking to Jaylen (Warren) and Jaylen said he wasn’t going to watch. I said, ‘I’ll watch for you.’ “I said, ‘He’s going to be missed,'” Gainwell said.

The Loop is truly gone, and the Steelers will struggle to see another day.
