Cam Thomas is responding to continued issues with hamstring injuries during his contract season
Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas missed most of the 2024-25 campaign with three left hamstring injuries. After an offseason spent in rehabilitation, Thomas is sidelined with another hamstring strain.
The 24-year-old was injured during the first quarter of Wednesday’s win over the Indiana Pacers and will be out for at least three to four weeks.
“Obviously it’s frustrating to be hurt in anything,” Thomas said Friday. “Nobody wants to get hurt, sitting on the sidelines. But I’m not really worried about it. I’ll be back in no time. So I’m not really upset or worried; it’s just unfortunate. But it’s good that it happened earlier this year so we can move on and I can be back as soon as I can.”
Thomas suffered the injury while diving to catch a pass in transition. He tried to stay in the game but couldn’t continue. The Nets immediately cut him.
“Having (this injury), I already know (what it’s like). I definitely felt tight, so I honestly thought I would be able to come back… But they were careful with it. I’m thankful for that,” he continued. “I don’t want it to be worse than it already was… I played like two plays after that, and I was like, yeah, no, I just don’t feel good. I have to come out. I definitely didn’t expect it to be, I wouldn’t say it was that serious, but you’re out for a long period of time, so it was like playing, and it definitely felt like playing, and I definitely felt like this.”
Thomas has added significant muscle in previous years, but called his calf injuries last season “bad luck.” He this summer he underwent a physical transformationtelling reporters at training camp that he had lost a “good amount” of weight, though the change was more about aesthetics than performance.
Cam Thomas’ injury struggles continue after failed contract negotiations with the Nets

Thomas’ fourth hamstring strain in the last year is a concern for his availability going forward. Despite that, he he doesn’t feel the need to adapt his training or rehabilitation regime.
“It was just an unfortunate play. I mean, I can’t explain it. I did everything right, everything right,” Thomas said. “So it’s nothing I have an answer for right now. It is what it is. I don’t expect to be out long, but we’ll see how it goes. It’s definitely unfortunate to be injured, to be out. But at the end of the day, you’ve just got to take the hits and try to get back as quickly as possible.”

Thomas averaged 24.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists on .408/.356/.875 shooting in seven games before retiring early Wednesday. The former first-round pick is in a contract season after failing to sign an extension with the Nets this summer.
Thomas turned down a two-year, $30 million contract from Brooklyn with a team option. The fifth-year guard also turned down a one-year, $9 million deal that required him to waive his no-trade clause. Instead, he signed his $6 million qualifying offer, retaining his no-trade clause this season before unrestricted free agency next summer.
