Cam Thomas is undergoing an MRI on his hamstring amid a month-long layoff
Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has been sidelined with a hamstring injury for the past month. The 24-year-old will undergo an MRI later this week, after which the Nets will provide an update on the timetable for his return, head coach Jordi Fernandez said.
Thomas strained his left hamstring during the first quarter a Nov. 5 win over the Indiana Pacers. It was his fourth hamstring injury in the past year. The former first-round pick played in just 25 games last season.
Thomas continued to put up big scores while dominating the ball in Brooklyn’s offense early this season.
Will Cam Thomas return to the Nets lineup after a long absence?

He average 24.4 points on .408/.356/.875 shooting spread over seven appearances. However, he remained limited as a playmaker and defender, averaging 2.6 assists and 2.0 turnovers. His 0.51 assist-to-usage ratio ranks in the 10th percentile among combined guards, according to CleaningTheGlass.
The Nets posted an almost identical offensive rating before and after Thomas’ injury. Meanwhile, their defensive rating improved from 128.5 (30th) in the first seven games (0-7) to 117.4 (20th) in the last 13 games (4-9) with Thomas out.
Several young players — including Egor Demin, Noah Clowney, Drake Powell, Danny Woof and Tyrese Martin — showed promise while seeing expanded opportunities during that stretch.
With the Nets prioritizing reps for their ball-handling starters, it’s unclear where Thomas will fit into the rotation when healthy. The LSU product’s future in Brooklyn is uncertain after he and the team failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension in the summer. Thomas turned down a two-year, $30 million deal with a team option in favor of his qualifying offer of $5.99 million.
The Nets point guard has a no-trade clause this season and will be an unrestricted free agent next summer. He will be eligible for a trade on Dec. 15, though he will have to sign any deal.
