Cam Thomas sat out against the Magic as Bucks-Cavs trade rumors swirl
The Brooklyn Nets disabled guard Cam Thomas for the game on Thursday with Orlando Magic for personal reasons. Thomas’ absence comes first Thursday’s trade deadline is 3:00 PM EST. He was not on the Brooklyn plane when it took off Wednesday, according to a league source.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks showed interest in Thomas, according to HoopsHipe’s Michael Scott.
Thomas’ trend has been expected since the offseason, when he failed to agree to a contract extension with the Nets and signed his $6 million qualifying offer. The fifth-year guard reportedly turned down a two-year, $15 million contract that included a team option in favor of his KO. He has a no-trade clause, meaning he would have to agree to any deal Brooklyn makes.
However, a change of scenery might be in Thomas’ best interest, given the recent downsizing of the role.

Thomas opened the year as Brooklyn’s starter and leading scorer. He average 24.4 points a .408/.356/.875 hitting split through the team’s first seven games. However, the Nets went 0-7 with an NBA-worst defensive rating of 128.5 during that span.
Thomas injured his hamstring during Brooklyn’s eighth game of the season, after which the team improved dramatically. The Nets went 9-12 with the NBA’s sixth-best defensive rating (111.7) during Thomas’ absence. They are 4-17 with the second-worst defensive rating in the NBA (120.9) since the 24-year-old returned from a two-month layoff.
Thomas moved to the bench and saw his role dramatically reduced after his return. He’s averaging 12.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 39.8 percent shooting from the field and 30.6 percent from three over his last 16 appearances.
