Cam Thomas sidesteps question about coming off bench in Rockets loss

Cam Thomas endured a brutal 2025-26 season to this point, but remained patient in what looks to be his final season with Brooklyn Nets. The writing appears to be on the wall for his tenure with the Nets, as head coach Jordi Fernandez refused to put him in the starting lineup despite losing three starters during their 120-96 loss to the Houston Rockets on New Year’s Day.

Thomas, to say the least, hasn’t let his position in the Nets organization affect his game one bit. He scored a team-high 21 points on 8-13 shooting and was the only player on the team with a positive plus-minus on the night.

After the game, it sure looks like Thomas’ relationship with the team is fulfilledas he did his best not to cause even more drama by avoiding questions about his entrance from the bench.

“No comment,” Thomas said when asked if he was frustrated coming off the bench, via ClutchPoints Nets beat reporter Eric Slater.

There’s a possibility the Nets are just being cautious with Thomas since he’s missed a lot of time this season with a hamstring strain. But no one should be surprised if Brooklyn simply de-prioritizes him.

Thomas and the Nets were so far apart in contract negotiations last offseason that the 24-year-old guard is simply decided to accept the qualifying offer. He is now headed to unrestricted free agency and could choose to sign with any team he wants without the threat of the Nets matching any offer.

There is a universe where Thomas gets into an ideal situation where his score is maximized and he becomes a winning player. But the Nets don’t seem willing to give him that opportunity.
