Cam Thomas will miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has been diagnosed with a strained left hamstring and will miss at least three to four weeks. Thomas suffered an injury during the first quarter win over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

24 year old stretched the same tendons three times in the same seasonlimiting him to 25 games.

“Obviously, I feel for him,” head coach Jordi Fernandez said. “He’s done a great job this summer. He looked great, his body looked great, and now he’s not going to be with us on the field. But we’re going to do whatever it takes to help him continue to work and stay healthy. And in three or four weeks we’ll reassess and see what the plan is. Right now, he’s the next man up, so it’s our last exciting opportunity to continue to compete at the same level. games.”

Thomas experienced a significant body transformation this summer, telling reporters in training camp that he had lost a “good amount” of weight.

The 24-year-old continued to put up big numbers early this season while dominating the ball in Brooklyn’s offense. However, he struggled to impact the game in other areas. Five-year guard average 24.4 points1.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists on .408/.356/.875 shooting in seven games before Wednesday’s early departure.

Thomas is one of 24 players to post a 30+ usage rate this season. He ranked 33rd among all players in time of possession (4.3 minutes per game) through seven games.

Without another high-level creator on the roster, Fernandez detailed how the Nets will replace Thomas’ production.

“We don’t have another Cam Thomas. The team will find a way,” the coach said. “We have to play more off the ball, more off the dribble, more off the pick and roll, more through the bigs. All those things are changing. It happened last year when all of a sudden we had Dennis (Schroder) and we were playing more pick and rolls, then we had Ben (Simmons) and we were playing more off the ball and faster, and then with me it didn’t have to be consistent. Purpose: We have to look like a competitive team, an unselfish team, and if that it happens, we’ll be fine.

Thomas is in a contract season after opting out a two-year, $30 million contract with a team option from the Nets this summer. Instead, he opted to sign his $6 million qualifying offer, giving him a no-trade clause ahead of unrestricted free agency next offseason.
