Cavs, Clippers in ‘advanced discussions’ on James Harden-Darius Garland trade

We are on the brink of a major NBA trade. With just days to go before the trade deadline, trade reports between Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Clippers have appeared. Kelly Ico reports it both teams are discussing a trade including the Cavs star Darius Garland and Clippers star James Harden.

“In the days leading up to Thursday NBA trade deadlineThe Los Angeles Clippers have entered talks for veteran guard James Harden — with the Cleveland Cavaliers leading the teams that have recently expressed interest in acquiring the former All-Star — sources told Yahoo Sports, Ico wrote.

Shems Charania also reports that Harden is working with the Clippers to find the guard a new home before Thursday’s trade deadline.

“The Los Angeles Clippers and 11-time All-Star James Harden are working to see if the two sides can reach an agreement by Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, sources told ESPN. Both sides are aligned in discussions together and with interested teams.”

It’s worth noting that Harden sat out the last two Clippers games due to personal reasons. When asked about his player’s absence, Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said, “No. I just know he was at home in Phoenix and only for personal reasons, so I’m not sure.”

The Cavs are looking to add more firepower in the backcourt after trading for Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroeder a few days ago. Garland, a former All-Star, played in just 26 games and has missed the last eight games with a sprained toe. Cleveland would like to have another ball handler to take some pressure off Donovan Mitchell, and Harden fits the mold.

The Meanwhile, the Clippers have clearly had interest in Garland for quite some time. Both Garland and Harden are making $39 million this season, which would make an outright trade without adding salary cap easy for either team if interested.

The Cavaliers are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference at 30-21. The Clippers are ninth in the West with a record of 23-25.
