Chargers’ Justin Herbert reveals Derwin James’ crystal ball moment before game-winning drive

The Kansas City Chiefs have been the dominant team in the AFC for a decade. Their streak ended in Week 15 as they suffered a 16-13 loss to Los Angeles Chargers at home. That loss left the Chiefs at 6-8 and eliminated them from playoff contention in the AFC playoff structure.

The Chargers improved to 10-4 with the win, but couldn’t make up any ground on the first-place Denver Broncos. That team won its 11th straight game and is 12-2 with three games to go.
The Chargers trailed 13-3 in the first half, but quarterback Justin Herbert threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to KeAndre Lambert-Smith with 5 seconds left in the first half. It gave new life to the Chargers and their defense dominated the game in the second half.

From that point on, the Chiefs were held scoreless as Chargers punter Cameron Dicker connected on field goals of 23 and 49 yards for the the Chargers a 16-13 advantage that would eventually serve as the final score.
The Chiefs had a chance to tie the game on their final possession, but defensive back Derwin James came up with a game-clinching interception on a pass from backup quarterback Gardner Minshev, and that solved the problem. James foresaw that a crucial point would come up in his side conversations with Herbert.
“He’s been telling me all day that he’s going to come out and make a show like that,” said Herbert. “Nothing but respect for him.”
Minshev entered the game after the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL in the fourth quarter. Mahomes was playing despite a left knee injury and was running toward the end zone when Chargers defensive lineman Da’Shaun Hand tackled him to the ground.
