Charles Barkley calls NFL ‘pigs’ Roger Goodell for playing on Christmas Day

On Thursday, ten NBA teams will take the floor for the league’s annual Christmas festivities, headlined by a matchup between the reigning champions NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs rookiewho have already beaten them twice this year, including two days ago. Christmas has traditionally been a basketball holiday, with Thanksgiving reserved for the NFL’s most exciting games of the year, but that has recently changed as the NFL has held games on the holiday for the past few seasons.
One person who isn’t thrilled with that fact is the NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barclaywho recently went on ESPN’s “Inside the NBA” to blast the NFL for take away The NBA world shines on Christmas.
“The NFL got greedy and started adding Christmas games. We used to have this day to ourselves, but Roger Goodell and those pigs in the NFL always want to pig out every day of the week. … Christmas is NBA Day,” Barkley said, according to NBA insider Marc Stein on X, formerly Twitter.
Indeed, many have leveled accusations that the NFL is being greedy by trying to swoop in and steal some of the NBA’s Christmas viewership in recent years, and predictably won a ratings war in the process.
Fortunately for the NBA, this year’s NFL Christmas roster couldn’t be less interesting for the average fan, with several teams already eliminated from the playoffs, and more starting quarterbacks who haven’t entered the national consciousness suiting up for games.
