Charles Barkley trolls WJ Edgecombe for his lack of home decor
The Philadelphia 76ers went on a red-hot 4-0 run, powered by their explosiveness the backcourt duo of Tyrese McKay and rookie sensation VJ Edgecombe. Charles Barclay he’s not worried about basketball though. Instead, he has questions about Edgecombe’s interior design.
During a recent ESPN segment, Barkley made a hilarious video on pick #3 after noticing the bare walls of his apartment during an interview. The Hall of Famer then reached out to Maxey, suggesting the veteran should step up and help his young teammate man his place.
“You know, my question is for you. You’re paid and you’ve earned it. Why don’t you buy the young guy some things to put on his wall?” Barkley asked. “Because you’ve got all these pretty like pictures. He’s got just plain white walls. Come on, man. If you’re going to be a vet as an example, man, buy that man something to put on the wall.”
“Thank you, Chuck,” the rookie replied, clearly enjoying the joke.
Maxey defended himself by pointing out that Edgecombe was not really struggling financially.
“Listen, let me tell you something. Number three, spade number three,” Maxie retorted. “He had Adidas on his chest. They’ll make sure he’s fine, I tell you. Everything else. I still got him. I do, he knows I got him.”

A playful exchange stands out chemistry between the 76ers’ dynamic duo. Edgecombe has been on the court since day one, dropping 34 points in his debut against Boston. That performance is ranked third all-time for a rookie’s first gamebehind only Wilt Chamberlain and Frank Selvey. Through four games, he is averaging 22.3 points while leading the league in scoring.
His four-year rookie contract is worth about $50.4 million, with a first-year salary of $11.1 million. Add in his Adidas endorsement deal that Maxi mentioned, and the walls will likely be left bare by choice rather than budget.
For now, Edgecombe’s walls can remain bare. At this rate, he’ll soon have plenty of accolades to garnish them.
