Chauncey Billups Arrested in FBI Sports Gambling Investigation

Like an The FBI’s gambling probe sweeps through the NBA, Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups is the latest prominent figure to catch on. On Thursday morning, reports emerged that former NBA player arrested.
“WORRY | NBC News: Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups has been arrested in connection with an investigation into illegal gambling — unrelated to the games he coached — two top law enforcement officials say,” NBC News law enforcement and intelligence correspondent Tom Winter tweeted.
The news comes shortly after Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was also arrested for illegal gambling.
FBI Director Cash Patel, along with New York District Joseph Nochel, FBI Assistant Director Chris Ray, HSI Special Agent in Charge Ricky Patel and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, have a press conference scheduled for Thursday morning to explain more about the allegations.
Chauncey Billups is in the basketball hall of fame after a 17-year NBA career. He was drafted third overall in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics after a standout career in Colorado. He went on to play for a total of seven NBA teams and made five All-Star teams and three All-NBA teams. His longest tenure was with the Detroit Pistons from 2002 to 2009 and then again in his final season. In 2004, he won the championship with the Pistons and was the NBA Finals MVP.
The 49-year-old began his coaching career in 2020 as an assistant to Tyronn Lue with the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2021, he got the job as the head coach of the Blazers and signed a extend his contract with the team ahead of the 2025 season.
