Chicago makes a $20 million decision on Lewis Robert Jr

The MLB offseason has officially arrived, and The Chicago White Sox have made a decision regarding the selection of Luis Robert Jr. The club chose his option for 2026

“News from the White Sox: As expected, the team is picking up Luis Robert’s $20M option for 2026,” ESPN’s Jesse Rogers tweeted.

Robert struggled in 2025. In 110 games, the outfielder hit 14 home runs, collected 53 RBIs and posted a .661 OPS. The slugger was the subject of discussion before the trade deadline after slashing .353/.441/.549/.990 in July, but the franchise decided to stick around. Overall, his marks throughout the season were a far cry from what he was able to put up during a powerful 2023 in which he won the Silver Slugger and hit 38 home runs.

The 28-year-old held on multiple injuries from 2023. He missed time with a hip flexor strain and a pair of hamstring strains.

“We are committed to Lewis,” Getz said on Aug. 27. “… He can be such a boost to this lineup and this team, and that’s why we’re talking about it today because he missed.”

“Injuries are part of the game. They’ve been a part of his history, unfortunately. I think he’s played in about 110 games this season,” White Sox general manager Cheers Gaetz told On SI earlier this summer. “And he’s really grown in terms of impact on this team and the league. And a lot of that quality work has happened in this second half. Because of what he’s capable of doing, the talent, the impact he can have on this club, we love having Luis Roberto here.”

It remains to be seen if Robert stays healthy and returns to form in 2026
