Clark Lea tears up the College Football Playoff with SEC flex

in 2025 Vanderbilt football the season was great. They went 10-2 with only losses against Alabama and Texas, and just flipped a five-star recruit. However, despite their 10-2 record, the Commodores are on the outside looking in for now, as the rest of the field has been incredible this year and many quality teams are on the outside looking in. Still, the selection process was confusing and forced Clarke Leo into it.

Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea was on Friday’s episode of “Wake Up Barstool” and talked about College Football Playoff and why Vanderbilt deserves a spot. He also entered the selection process, saying the goalposts keep moving and the process is generally flawed.

Lea said, “It seems like every week the goals and the process are shifting. You see, obviously what we’re going through right now is the evolution of the wrong system. And we’re on the wrong side of it, and I’m frustrated by that, and I’m going to turn my attention to helping change that and moving forward as we go into the offseason, this should kind of be my offseason 10 team. And if you look at what we’ve done, we have two losses at Alabama and at Texas.

It’s also worth noting that Lea talked about that aspect of growing as a team. He also listed the opponents that Vanderbilt has played and how, when compared, the arguments don’t hold up either.

Lea also said he thinks Diego Pavia and the rest of his team deserve a spot on college football’s biggest stage. He also criticized some of the other conference champions for potentially getting in thanks to the system instead of earning it on the field.

After an offseason full of heated claims, Pavia backed up everything he said. He passed for 3,192 yards, 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 826 yards and nine touchdowns.

Vanderbilt tried to play an extra game to show his team one last time before the selection show, but it didn’t work. Still, it looks like Pavia will at least get an invite to New York for the Heisman Trophy.
