Coco Gauff continues her unbeaten streak with a “tough” win at the Australian Open
Women’s tennis star Koko Gauf extended her winning streak in 11 matches and advanced to the third round Australian Open with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Britain’s Jodie Berridge on Wednesday at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Despite some challenges in the second set, Gauff held her composure to secure her seventh straight win in 2025.
Third seed and current US Open champion encountered difficulties with her servicemaking six double faults in the second set. Gauff led 3-1 early before losing four straight games to fall 5-3. However, she recovered when Burage served for the set, going up four games to close out the match in just under 90 minutes.
“It was difficult. “She was serving really well, so I was just trying to get the hang of it, honestly,” Gauff said, according to Howard Fendrich of the Associated Press. “She really picked up her level in the middle of the second set, so I just tried to be offensive when I could.
Burrage, ranked No. 173, struggled with unforced errors, 37 to Gauff’s 11. Her last two service games ended in double faults, including two back-to-back faults that gave Gauff a 6-5 lead in the second set. Gauff took advantage of the opportunity and finished the match with a stable base game.

The 19-year-old American focused on improving her serve and forehand, and while both shots faltered at times, Gauff credited Burrage’s aggressive return for building the pressure.
“She was returning well, so that put pressure on me on my serve,” Gauff said. “If I landed something short, she was victorious.”
Her undefeated streak includes Gauff’s title run at the WTA Finals in November, where she defeated top-ranked Aryna Sabalenko and No. 2 Igo Sviatek in straight sets. Her next opponent is 30th seed Leilah Fernandez, who Gauff beat earlier this year at the United Cup.
Fernandez reached the third round with a comeback win over Christina Buch, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
