College basketball’s historic day gives Brooklyn a fighting edge
The Brooklyn Nets were the NBA’s worst team since New Years. Losers in 14 of their last 16 games, the product on the pitch has bordered on lackluster at times in recent times. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise during the dog days of reservoir season.
While player development is the primary focus, this season has always been about the Nets’ rebuilding draft position. The owner Joe Tsai has all but admitted this during the offseason.
“Well, I’d have to say we’re in a rebuilding year,” Tsai said. “We spent all our (2025) picks — we had five picks in the draft last summer … We have one pick in 2026 and we’re hoping to get a good pick. So you can predict what kind of strategy we’re going to use for this season. But we have a very young team.”
The draft lottery prospect in Brooklyn is on the rise amid his recent struggles. While the Nets (12-33) are fifth in the draft lottery standings, they are just one game behind the Washington Wizards for the league’s worst record (11-34).
A historic day in college basketball will add to the excitement surrounding Brooklyn’s 2026 draft position.
The 2026 draft prospect continues to impress during the Nets’ season

The the strength of the 2026 draft class was among the major subplots NBA season 2025-26. Last Saturday highlighted just how historic this year’s draft class could be.
Three freshmen – AJ Dibansta from BIUHouston’s Kingston Flemings and Illinois’ Keaton Wagler — had 40-point performances Saturday. According to ESPN research, this is the first time in at least 20 years that three freshmen have scored 40 points in the same day, according to Jeff Borzello.
Dibansta is the second choice ESPN’s latest mock draftwhile Flemings is in 5th place. Wagler is projected to go 18th, but his recent performance could make him a hit on draft boards.
The 2026 draft includes three other highly touted prospects — Kansas’ Darrin Peterson, Duke’s Cameron Boozer and North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson — who are projected to go in the top four. Meanwhile, other names such as Louisville’s Mikel Brown, Tennessee’s Nate Ament and Kentucky’s Jaden Quantans have also generated quite a bit of buzz.
While the Nets are mired in a second consecutive tanking season, the prospect of landing one of the aforementioned names is a silver lining to the team’s recent struggles.
